I can respect that. Honestly in the summer time TOTS is probably one of my favorite bars. The deck is pretty much best in Blacksburg. Even during the school year it can be entertaining, sights to see and so on. And you are right about the owners, good people. I don’t know them personally, though a friend who does has introduced me to them on occasion. I made the genius move of tipping the wife $10 for a glass of water one time when I arrived in a state of advanced inebriation. Once I settled into a solid buzz drinking rhythm, I cut right to the front of the line every time. Good memories.
[Smitty]: Always! I repeat: Always, wash your rods and reels with plenty of fresh water after salt water fishing immediately after your day is done. Be religious about this. I prefer low pressure, but sometimes you have to give them a blast or two (don’t blast up into the guts of the reel). I don’t know much about fresh water bait casters, so not sure how they’d do in the salt. I would think if you didn’t drop them in the sand and you wash them as stated above, they’d be fine. You might want to take them apart and re-lube after your trip (I am pretty religious about reel tear down and re-lube every 6 months – I don’t fish as much any more).
Sorry to burst the Fred Myers bubble (I grew up in Oregon and love them) but both Fred Myers and QFC are owned by the same company, so I doubt they would move a FM into a space so close to QFC. I for one would love it if a craft store like Ben Franklin moved in but that is my own wishful thinking!

The modern fish economy, with its long list of regulations and middlemen, has transformed the Gulf’s wild aquatic livestock into a precious commodity. Fish markets and their suppliers, with an eye on the future, are part of a supply chain they hope will nourish their coffers and palates alike for years to come. Though Ernest Hemingway might be turning in his grave over the loss of Florida’s quaint, old seafaring industry—with its romanticized leather-skinned captains and its superstitious disdain for bananas—the modern use of sustainable resource management will ensure that area residents will always have a well-stocked local fish market for those special meals that call for something flaky, buttery, light, lean and a little salty. — Andrew Fabian
I was supposed to fly to Colorado for 10 days on Friday but have postponed till August so four more guide trips through the weekend around RVA. If anyone wants more reports, I’ll have them, in between tying up more Bangarangs. I’m not going to fish the James. Mike’s buddy who is a VGDIF office said there are very few smallmouth in the river near the city with the 4th straight year of flooding during the spawn (plus Dominion’s wonderful additives to the water.)
In addition to being a functional work of art, the Sundial Bridge is a technical marvel as well. The cable-stayed structure has an inclined, 217 foot pylon constructed of 580 tons of steel. The deck is made up of 200 tons of glass and granite and is supported by more than 4,300 feet of cable. The structure is stabilized by a steel truss, and rests on a foundation of more than 115 tons of steel and 1,900 cubic yards of concrete.
Yeah, and the worst thing is that the more I reallllllly look, the more things wrong I find. I have priced stuff, and without doubt fixing up what I have is cheaper than getting a new trailer, but I’m no mechanic and routine fix-it stuff is a real chore for me. The other thing is, if you fix one thing, you really feel pressured to fix it all because any of it could leave you on the side of the road.
Loop a line through the chain and head out at half-past one, two o’clock-ish, and after 20m or so you reach the anchor. It’s surprisingly small and a bit of an anti-climax, but thinking about that dive has made me realise just how tough it is for regulator-makers these days.
Mine has taken on a few minor scuffs over the years, but there are no chips, racks, major dings, or anything else that affects its use. The Shave Well travel shaving mirror rings in at ten bucks, too, which is a pretty great price for a US-made product that should last quite a long time.
Well learn the Perfection Loop as well. You can also do a double overhand knot to form your loop but it will get hung up in your guides and if you tie good blood knots, it will break first when you get hung up. The Perfection Loop won’t.
